ULTRASOUND

Over the last thirty years ultrasound therapy has been used efficiently to treat many pain conditions. Recently it is used successfully also in the aesthetic treatments.

Ultrasound waves cross through anatomic structures provoking different biological effects:

  • Thermal: energy to heat conversion increases significantly local temperature, in particular between tissues with different acoustic impedance (for example bone/soft tissues), and increases microcirculation.
  • Mechanical/chemical: pressure variations provoke fluids movement and an increase of cell membranes permeability.
  • Cavitation: ultrasound waves are able to produce vapour bubbles that implode. As a consequence the delivered energy disintegrates adipose cells.
